Great India | Our Story

A Lifelong Dream, Rooted in Indian Cooking
Great India is the realization of a dream Sukhpal Singh spent decades working toward: a restaurant of his own, grounded in authentic Indian cooking and genuine care for guests. With more than 20 years of restaurant experience behind him, he opened Great India alongside his wife, Gurinder Kaur, and brought that personal dedication to Midvale. The restaurant reflects both the journey that led him here and the hospitality they share as a family. It is a place to discover flavorful dishes, settle in over a meal, and get to know the people behind the food.

From India to Utah, With a Dream
Sukhpal Singh moved from India to Utah in the 1990s and began building his life in the Indian restaurant industry. That early connection to restaurant work became a lasting commitment, giving him the opportunity to learn the business through years of hands-on experience. His journey eventually led to Great India, where his roots and his life in Utah meet around the table. For guests in Midvale, the restaurant offers more than a menu of Indian dishes: it carries the personal story of someone who devoted decades to the craft before opening his own doors.

Two Decades of Experience Behind Every Meal
Before opening Great India, Sukhpal spent more than 20 years working as a waiter, cook, and manager in Indian restaurants. Each role gave him a different view of what makes a meal meaningful, from the work that happens in the kitchen to the welcome guests receive at their table. That broad experience became the foundation for his own restaurant and continues to shape its focus on food and hospitality. Great India brings those years of learning together in one place, with a menu and a guest experience guided by a lifelong commitment to restaurant work.

Sukhpal and Gurinder, the Heart of Great India
Sukhpal Singh and his wife, Gurinder Kaur, built Great India together, turning a personal dream into a shared commitment to the Midvale community. Their partnership is at the heart of the restaurant’s identity, bringing family dedication to both the food and the feeling of being welcomed inside. Great India is an expression of the life and work they have put into creating a restaurant of their own. When you join us for a meal, you are visiting a place shaped by their care, their connection to Indian cuisine, and their desire to make guests feel at home.

Come for the Flavors, Feel at Home
Sukhpal’s invitation to Great India is a personal one: come in, enjoy a meal, and feel welcome to share your questions or concerns. That openness reflects the genuine hospitality he and Gurinder want guests to experience, whether this is your first visit or you already have a favorite dish. Explore the menu, bring someone you love sharing food with, and discover the flavors that make this restaurant their own. We look forward to welcoming you to Great India in Midvale, where the story continues each time people gather around the table.
